Reconnect is a grant programme, designed to help householders across Northern Ireland switch to sustainable energy, by providing financial assistance with renewable energy installations.
Aimed at enhancing the long term sustainability of our energy system, increasing fuel security and diversity and reducing costs, Reconnect is funded by the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Investment (DETI) and managed by Action Renewables.
Reconnect opened for applications on 24th July 2006. Our goal: to help at least 4,000 private households to install up to two of the following renewable technologies: solar water heating, photovoltaics (PV), wood fuelled boilers, wood pellet stoves, heat pumps, hydro electric turbines or wind turbines.
Total funding allocated to Reconnect is £8m over two years. So far, more than 700 renewable systems have been installed and a further 1300 plans have received a commitment of support.
Already, householders in Northern Ireland are enjoying the benefits which renewable energy can bring to their home.
Why install a renewable energy system?
Our natural resources have the power to provide a clean, convenient and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, now and in the future. For many people, the chief reason for installing renewable energy systems is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. At the same time they cut energy costs significantly, without compromising on comfort.
